In ancient Videha country, Mithilapuri is the birthplace of 19th Tirthankar Mallinath and 21st Tirthankar Naminath. Here the conception, birth, initiation and welfare of both these Tirthankaras took place. Thus, being the land of eight welfare, this place has been a pilgrimage center for thousands of years.

Description of Mithilapuri and many people and events related to it is found in Jain Puran literature and story texts. From which it is known, Mithilapuri was a cultural city. These incidents give us great help in evaluating this city properly.

"Harivanshpuran" It is mentioned in the book that when the four ministers like Bali, who had come to Hastinapur after getting a seven-day reign from King Padma, made horrific inhuman prefixes on Acharya Akampan and his association of seven hundred sages, at that time the sage Vishnukumar's guru was sitting in Mithila and he Seeing the trembling of Shravan Nakshatra, he had learned from divine knowledge that a terrible prefix is happening on Munisangha, this thing suddenly came out of his mouth, then Ksullak Pushpadanta, sitting nearby, listened. After asking his guru, he went to Muni Vishnukumar on Dhartibhushan mountain, taking his permission. Going there, he told the whole incident to Muni Vishnu Kumar, then Muni Vishnu Kumar reached Hastinagpur with his Vikriya Riddhi and asked for three steps of land from Bali by taking the form of Vamana. Then Bali resolved to donate three steps of earth. Then by making a huge size from Vikriya, the sage Vishnukumar measured the land of Manushottara mountain from Sumeru mountain in two steps. There was only one step left to take. Due to fear, the ministers of sacrifice etc. began to tremble, they fell at their feet and repeatedly apologized and the sage's prefix was removed.

The fame of Mithilapuri was due to Lord Mallinath and Lord Naminath. After this, King Janak was born in this city, whose daughter was Sita. She was married to Ramchandra ji.

Nowadays no sign is found to identify ancient Mithila. But much information is obtained from ancient literature.
