SHRI LAKSHMANI TIRTH

PRESIDING DEITY AND LOCATION :

Sri Padmaprabhu Bhagwan, in white color, seated in a lotus posture, of height 1.2 meters in a shrine 8 Kms away from Alirajpur village in a forest on the Khandwa-Vadodara road. (Shve).

ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :

From the temples and the idols discovered from under the earth, it is believed that this shrine is about 2000 years old. From Jain scriptures, it is known that this place was flourishing in prosperity upto 16th Vikram century. Sri Jayanandmuniji composed his “Pravasgiti” in 15th Vikram century and according to what is stated therein, in Vikram year 1427, there were here 2000 homes of Jain householder families and 101 temples with Sikhar. According to a volume entitled “Shukra Sagar” (Sukhsagar), when the minister of Mandavgadh Sri Zanzanshah led a congregation of Jains on a pilgrimage to the shrines of Mt. Shatrunjay, the congregation halted here for some time for offering prayers and worship. The last renovations on the temple were carried out in Vikram year 1994 when ceremonial consecration had taken place at the hands of Acharya Sri Yatindrasurishvarji.

This magnificent temple of three Sikhars has a very large seating hall. In the interior of the temple, 137 large slabs of new stone are displayed in full varied colors and artistic from with events depicted from the life story of King Shripal, the sight of which anywhere else is rare indeed. Here on Kartik Poornima and Chaitra Poornima annual festival fair are held.

The beauty and art of ancient idols discovered from under the earth are worth seeing. Some pillars are even as captivating as the “Pillars of Fame” of their own period in the field of particular displayed. Near the temple, there is a “Gurumandir” of great Acharya Sri Rajendrasurishvarji Maharaj.

APPROACH – ROUTE :

Nearby Railway station from the shrine are Dahod 80 Kms, Vadodara 153 Kms, Chota Udaipur 56 Kms and Indore 225 Kms away. From here buses and taxis are available and there is a tar road upto the temple.

AMENITIES FOR JAIN PILGRIMS :

Nearby the temple there is a dharamshala for lodging with all facilities and a bhojanshala for meals.
